How to calculate a percentage
A percentage expresses a number as a fraction of 100. The word comes from the Latin per centum, meaning “per hundred.”
Finding X% of a number
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100.
Result = (Percentage ÷ 100) × Number
Example: 20% of 150 → 30
Finding what percentage one number is of another
Divide the part by the total and multiply by 100.
Percentage = (Part ÷ Total) × 100
Example: 30 is what percent of 150? → 20%

What is the easiest way to calculate a percentage mentally?
For 10%, move the decimal one place left. For 5%, halve that. For 20%, double the 10% figure.
What is the difference between percentage and percentage points?
