Frequently asked questions

How is this different from percentage change?
Percentage increase gives you the new number after a known upward movement. Percentage change measures the direction and magnitude between two values you already have.
Can I use this for VAT?
Yes. Enter the net price as the original and the tax rate as the percentage. The result is the gross price.
How do I reverse a percentage increase?
Divide the increased value by (1 + p/100). £102 with 20% VAT → net is £85.
Does 50% increase then 50% decrease return to the original?
No. 50% increase on 100 → 150. 50% decrease on 150 → 75. Percentage changes are multiplicative.
What does a 100% increase mean?
It doubles the original value. A 200% increase triples it.
